Description
For generations of Iaeger Cubs, this corridor was more than just a hallway. It was one of those places in the school that immediately brings back sounds, smells, exhaustion, laughter, and probably a little pain.
At the bottom of the hall was the weight room. Football players made countless trips up and down this passage, and wrestlers knew it especially well. After grinding through the weight circuit, they would come back up these steps, run the stairs in loops for what seemed like forever—sometimes 30 minutes at a time—and then head back to the mat for drills. Basketball and football players will also remember the locker rooms located down this way.
Turn around from this viewpoint and even more of the school comes back into focus: the double doors leading toward the main lobby, the entrance to the gym stage, the gym itself, and the stairs leading up to the bleachers.
But this hallway wasn’t only about athletics. People gathered here before practices, after games, between events, and for a hundred other reasons. Conversations happened here. Jokes were told. Teams prepared themselves. Friends waited on friends. Coaches probably yelled more than a few times.
It was one of those little crossroads inside Iaeger High where a lot of life happened.
For former Cubs, one look at this photograph probably brings back a memory that needs no explanation.
If you know, you know.
